Honestly, I can’t count how many cathedrals I’ve been in but I can remember practically every one! I love how whenever you look out into a city, you can see all the steeples. I love how different countries have different styles of architecture; the stained glass windows in the French cathedrals are beyond magical! I love how detailed cathedrals are; the craftsmanship amazes me! I love the history behind cathedrals. I love walking up and up and up the spiral staircases. I love how calm and quiet cathedrals are. I love the organs and the bell towers. However, more than anything, I love when my sister sings in the cathedrals (you can watch here and here). I wish I could take all the cathedrals home with me and plant them in my backyard!

Tessa (yes I realize I wrote Tess on the other comment, sorry)-

How inspirational you are! I served my mission in Rome, Italy where there is a church or cathedral on every corner (or so it seemed). I love the beauty and architecture of the buildings, especially in Milan, but I was always saddened by the artwork that is displayed in them. Christ is mostly depicted as dying on the cross. As beautiful as the buildings are, I missed feeling the spirit when I entered the cold, larger than life, over sized, marbled constructs. I was pleasantly surprised whenever I saw Christ portrayed in a different light. One of my favorite places that depicts Christ in this manner is in a museum in Venice. The pieces of art take up the entire wall and the colors are magnificent. The stories from the New Testament and Christ’s life are marvelous.
there is even art on the ceiling and you use a mirror as you walk around to see it so you don’t get a kink in your neck. I hope you have the chance to visit. Thank you for allowing me to remember that and share it with you.

happy travels,
danielle

Great outfit and lovely photos! Cathedrals are on of my favorite things when travelling as well. They are beautiful! It amazes me how they can looks so different from country to country and city to city, but in the long run are created for the same purpose!

I couldn’t have put it more perfectly myself! And they’re all unique and beautiful whether they’re large or small, intricate or modest!
